Dr. Stewart maintains a private practice in east Fort Lauderdale. She also serves as adjunct faculty and Clinical Director of Nova Southeastern University (NSU)'s Anxiety Treatment Center.
Dr. Stewart graduated with bachelors and masters degrees in Psychology from Tulane University in New Orleans, Louisiana. Upon returning home to South Florida, she completed her Ph.D in Clinical Psychology at Nova Southeastern University.
Dr. Stewart's research and clinical training focused on the treatment of anxiety, OCD, and trauma-related conditions. Dr. Stewart provided therapy to youth within the NSU Child and Adolescent Traumatic Stress Program and completed an APA-accredited, pre-doctoral internship in the NSU Trauma Resolution and Integration Program, which provides psychological services to adult survivors of childhood abuse and trauma, as well as single-incident traumas (i.e., assaults, violent crimes) and domestic violence. Within these settings, Dr. Stewart gained expertise conducting Contextual, Cognitive Behavioral, and Dialectical Behavior Therapy.
Dr. Stewart's training also included a specialization in psychological testing. At Nicklaus Children's Hospital (formerly, Miami Children’s Hospital), she conducted evaluations of youth with emotional and behavioral problems, developmental delays, and learning issues. Outside of the hospital, she conducted psychological assessments and parenting competency evaluations of individuals involved in Family and Dependency Court, the Department of Juvenile Justice, and the Department of Children and Families.
Following completion of her doctoral degree, Dr. Stewart completed a specialized two year postdoctoral fellowship in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) at the University of Miami (UM) Child and Adolescent Mood and Anxiety Treatment Program and the UM Psychological Services Center's Anxiety Program. At UM, Dr. Stewart provided individual, group, and intensive Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to children and adults with anxiety and depressive disorders. She also served as a therapist on grant-funded research projects and gained particular expertise conducting Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), the treatment of choice for OCD.
For the last eight years, Dr. Stewart has worked in private practice in South Florida specializing in the provision of evidence-based assessments and treatment. She frequently treats individuals with social anxiety, panic, OCD, excessive worry, depression, and trauma-related issues.
Dr. Stewart uses Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, elements of Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Mindfulness to help clients achieve wellness.
Dr. Stewart is a member of the Anxiety and Depression Association of America, the Association for Behavioral and Cognitive Therapies, the International OCD Foundation, and the International Society for the Study of Trauma and Dissociation. Dr. Stewart is also secretary of the Central and South Florida affiliate of the International OCD Foundation.
